Markus Scheuermaier was appointed on November 1, 2024 as IFC’s Senior Country Officer for Botswana and Lesotho, based in Gaborone. He was previously IFC’s Resident Representative in Papua New Guinea (PNG), based in Port Moresby. During his assignment there, he was instrumental in developing a pipeline of new investments, while coordinating a large advisory program. Before moving to PNG, Markus was a Senior Operations Officer with IFC in Johannesburg and Maputo, where he managed PPP mandates and advisory engagements across Africa. He started his career at IFC as the Regional Economist for Middle East and North Africa, based in Washington. Prior to joining IFC, he worked for Brait Private Equity in Johannesburg and for the Economist Intelligence Unit in London. A German national, Markus holds degrees from Harvard University, the University of Oxford, and the Institut d’études politique de Paris.
